The Cow
A woman crossed the road the other day
Plump, like any other woman
carrying a paper packet under her arm.
A woman crossed the road the other day
Plump, like any other woman
carrying a paper packet under her arm.
In a black skirt and cream shirt with heels,
she clicked and clacked to the middle of the road.
Then stood and waited
Till the last car passed by.
Then stood and waited
Till the last car passed by.
And from the other side as I crossed her path,
I caught her eye.
I caught her eye.
Liquid,
Almost transparent, like light tea, glistening,
encased in porcelain, reflecting the afternoon.
Almost transparent, like light tea, glistening,
encased in porcelain, reflecting the afternoon.
Soft lashes,
Sad behind mascara.
Eyes,like the cow that had stilled,
Entangled, in the middle of the street
with cars from all sides;
with cars from all sides;
horns, brakes jarring- screeching.
Brown cow, jangling her bell.
Plump like any other cow
Crossing the street.
Plump like any other cow
Crossing the street.
